Description
Origin: Muslin originated in ancient Bengal (present-day Bangladesh and eastern India), particularly in Dhaka.
Dhaka Muslin was so fine and transparent it was called “woven air” or “morning dew.”
It was exported to ancient Greece, Rome, and the Middle East and later became highly prized in Mughal India and British colonial trade.
A single piece of high-grade muslin was said to be so light it could pass through a ring.
